Adoption is not enough: choosing deployment guardrails
A release can increase feature use while making the wider journey slower or less reliable. Guardrails keep the complete experience visible.
Pair intent with protection
Choose one or two metrics that represent the intended outcome and a small set that should not deteriorate. Completion, latency, error rate and support contact rate often reveal costs that adoption alone misses.
Define thresholds before launch
A threshold agreed after seeing the result invites convenient interpretation. Record the acceptable movement, the owner and the response before deployment.
Segment before averaging
An overall metric can hide a severe issue for a browser, plan or new-user cohort. Select the segments most exposed to the change and include them in the standard review.
